Mookie

Superdog Mookie turns 11

By Elizabeth Lewis

I met Mookie just over a year ago and I can say without hesitation that he is, by no small measure, the greatest dog in all of Manhattan. His emotional intelligence is unlike any other dog I've ever met. Once you cross over to Brooklyn, there is another dog who takes the cake, but let's focus on Mookie the Superdog on his birthday. On several occasions  Mookie has sensed my discomfort, and proceeded to promptly climb on top of my stomach and just hang out there until I felt better.

You have to understand - Mookie is not a lap dog. But when he senses that a lap dog's presence would cheer up the people he cares about, he transforms himself into the snuggliest lap dog in the world. This isn't to say he doesn't like to cuddle, he just prefers to lean on people rather than sit on them.  Basically, he's a saint and a half in the form of a hang toothed dog.

Happy birthday Mookie! I know you can't read this, but I promise I'll give you extra belly rubs next time I see you. For the humans in your life, here are some of my favorite pictures of you.
