I quote Betty Kanameishi in my immigration class when I pose the question of why students need to learn about an unpleasant subject like Japanese internment, letting her answer: “I worship you in spite of the errors you have made. Yes, you have made errors and you have roamed many wrong roads; but everyone makes mistakes .... All I ask is that you do not make the same mistake twice."
And then I tell them, as I see it, that's my job, and their job.
