In addition to the memories I have of visiting with Grant at Gelder family gatherings, I have a sweet memory of Grant from a Stake Baptism Meeting 3 or 4 years ago. I was handing out programs at the back entrance to the chapel. As the Program began, I left my seat just inside the door, to close the doors for the prayer. I saw someone coming down the long hall slowly with a cane. It was Grant. Knowing he had trouble with pain from his back surgery, I waited for him and asked him to sit by me just inside the door. He told me he had come for a child from the 25th ward whose family he had home taught. Though it was very painful for him to sit for long, I was touched by his love and sacrifice for this family and their little child. Now free from that physical pain, I hope you are finding peace, joy and love in your new home, Grant. Gina Howard

It's hard to believe that Grant is gone so soon. I have so many good memories with him. But I am grateful that I had the chance to have him as a friend. I miss you brother.

One of my favorite memories with Grant was when he and Sarah visited me in Chicago. I was hoping to convince them to move to the Chicago area near me (they didn't). Grant wanted to check out the law enforcement opportunities and we drove to the County Courthouse and Administration Building in Wheaton. Grant was right at home there, and I enjoyed watching his enthusiasm as he described the different roles of the officials we saw there. Later in the parking lot, he decided it was time to teach Sarah how to drive with the stick shift in my car, and poor Sarah cheerfully struggled through his instructions.
A few years later, Grant and Sarah visited me again, this time in London. Their visit was one of the greatest joys of my time there. Sarah had researched all the wonderful places to visit, and as I tagged along with their tours I got to see much of the UK that I hadn't before their visit, including Braemar (where we also saw Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles up close), and Edinburgh. Grant treated me as if I were his best buddy, and I never felt like the odd one out when I was with him and Sarah. We had a blast! He was upbeat and full of energy throughout the entire trip.
I loved Grant because the first time I met him, Sarah was playing the piano at a concert. I'm pretty sure it was the day Mom (Sarah's grandmother) passed away, or the day after. Grant didn't fiddle around during Sarah's performance or let his attention wander. His eyes were on Sarah and I enjoyed watching him watch her. I could tell that his attention was sincere, and I appreciated that.
I also deeply appreciated the way Grant took care of Sarah while she was so sick with cancer. It was comforting to know she was in good hands.
I have missed Grant. There will always be a tender spot in my heart for him.
