There are so many things I miss about Nance. She was my best friend's best friend.
She had a refined sense of everything - meticulously curating the things and people around her that mattered most. I remember her driving us insane in high school like every good mother should. No matter how hard we tried to rebel against her, somehow she managed to draw us closer. There were times in college when I'd come home to visit and hang out with Lia, only if Nance was going to be there too. I know I speak for Lia and myself when I say, we will never leave the house with an unmade bed, and ALWAYS wipe down the kitchen counter before leaving the room.
There is a thread tied though everything I admire about the Salvucci family that connects them to Nance.
Thank you Nancy, for including me in your family. You will always be with us.
Love always,
Had

Sarah and I have been recounting the many fun times that we had with Nancy from wine tasting adventures, stalking celebrities in Montecito, and out-of-control margarita nights (including jumping in the pool fully clothed) to some of the more serious life conversations that we've had. Nancy welcomed Sarah immediately into the family and we both consider visits out to Santa Barbara to be the best trips that we do on many levels.
As I've tried to process this in the last few weeks, it's remarkable that despite living 3,000 miles apart, and with relatively infrequent visits, that the Salvuccis, and Nancy in particular, have had such a remarkable impact on my life. I think I shared more about my life with Nancy than maybe anyone else. She was a pivotal part of my coming out experience, and was a resource to my father and me throughout that process. She loved hearing the dirt (with that perfect gasp of "oooh gossip") and yet also provided serious life advice and was open to receiving it.
She also was just fun, so much fun. Our day trip to go see Ellen Degeneres will go down as one of the most fun days I've ever had. The trip we did to Montana was just the best, and like I said above, all of our countless adventures in Santa Barbara.
As Sarah and I went back through our many, many fun Nancy pictures, we picked out two of our favorites. The first is what we call "Post Margarita Happy Hour Walking Euphoria." The second is the classic "Nancy face."
We love you, Nancy. Thank you for all of the fun times, and you will be missed.

There will be no one to fill the shoes of Nancy Salvucci.
This complex friend has left a hole in our lives. Nancy whose gifts were many will be on our minds so often in the future and we will forget for a moment that we cannot just reach out to her. Nancy could always be turned to for her frank and honest assessment of situations. Nancy who appreciated inspired wit and could tell a story that would make you laugh. Nancy who was there for you to tell you what you needed to hear but who would shed a tear with you. Nancy owned a sense of style and aesthetic to put the best to shame. Nancy had such strength of character and mind and yet held such a vulnerable softness and large heart. For those who were never graced with this wonderful friend, I can only say that you truly missed out on knowing a very remarkable woman that we all respected and adored. Nancy you will be very sorely missed.

Oh, how I miss this woman, every single day. We bonded over our kids' friendships and fun shared family adventures, but found our way to being two women who just loved being together. You were my style muse, my arbitrator of good taste, and my "go to" person for decisions on home decor, garden design, or my wardrobe. What fun we had together. We had plans, you and I, ideas for places we wanted to visit and lectures we wanted to hear. You actually apologized to me that we wouldn't be able to do those things together once you learned of your illness. It was hard to accept then, still seems unreal. You were such a private person, but the people you let in to your world you loved deeply and generously. I was so lucky to be part of your tribe. You taught me through it all how to move through life with grace and dignity. Even at the very end you laughed and smiled more than you cried. I know you didn't believe there was anything or anyplace after death. But we don't really know. When I think of you I imagine you moving freely, gracefully, looking as beautiful as always, eyes sparkling, and pure joy radiating from you. I love you, my friend.
