My brother Paul will always be remembered by our family for how precocious he was as an adolescent. Dealing with a young Paulie you never knew what the day was gonna bring. I remember when he was around 5 years old. He was getting disciplined by our Mom and she told him to go to his room and sit on the bed. My Mother was in her bedroom and I was in the hallway right in front of the room Paul and I shared. I felt the need to tease him for finally getting punished for his behavior. So I stood in the hall and proceeded to look at him and smirk. Paulie, frustrated from not being able to leave the room yelled to my Mom. "Mommy, you better come get Tashe, 'cause I'm gonna hurt her for standing there looking at me with that stupid "ground" on her face." I immediately fell to the floor and laughed harder than I can remember in my life. That 5 year old kid had blended the word "grin" and "frown" in his frustration. He was so adorable with his seriousness and conviction that he owned that word. Thinking about it now, I'm smiling. Thinking about a lot of Paul's stunts, I smile. And that is one of many stories that I will share with his daughters. I love you, Little Bro'. You are loved and missed dearly.

When I think about what I'd like Sa'Mya and Monai to know most about their father, I'd say it is that at his core he was a beautiful, funny, kind and caring soul. Not everyone got to see that side of Paul, but we spent many summers together when he was a boy talking and joking about one thing or another. He was always much wiser than his years. He was fearless, talking to kids or adults with the same level of confidence. Paul defined SWAG long before we had a name for it.
When he would visit us in South Carolina, long after he left, someone would be talking and laughing about something he said or something he did. That was Paul. If you met him, you wouldn't soon forget him.
Rest, sweet Paulie. You will live forever in our hearts.

I am honored to say that Paul Justin Ridley Jr. is my brother. I am honored to say that during his life we shared some fantastic moments. I have memories of love, joy and plenty of laughter. He lives through my mother, my brothers, and myself. As well as his daughters Monai and Sa'Mya. Thank YOU, JESUS.

I remember when your mom was having Paul and you were desperate to move back to New York from S.C., so you could be there for him.
