Ruth was like a second mother to me. I have known her since I was a young teenager. A youthful spirit, I always admired how she kept busy doing something meaningful and productive. If she wasn't sewing or making skating outfits for her children, she was completing yet another home improvement project!
I especially remember when later in life, she travelled to and spent time in Japan. She had me dying laughing about the first time she was introduced to the Japanese custom of the entire family bathing together in a steam bath. She said she was horrified when the family she was staying with started stripping off all their clothes and getting into the bath. In order not to offend them, she said she had no other choice but to join them!
But what I remember most about this trip was that at her age she took it upon herself to study and learn about Japanese culture. I admired how she had the courage to travel so far away from her home to spend time in another country. This had a profound affect on me because, at that time, I had not known any other woman to do this.
When her son who I was dating separated and went our separate ways, she still stayed in contact with me. She was never judgemental, and considered me a part of the family. Even after I had my daughter I remember going roller skating with her and the family, and we had a ball!
What a phenomenal woman who touched my heart in amazing ways. I am blessed to have had the privilege of spending time with her and also of having meaningful remembrances of her.
Ruth may you have a peaceful transition into the Light as you continue on your journey.
