Michael J. Ready's Life

Michael J. Ready, known to us kids as Uncle Michael (even though he was Mother's uncle and our Great Uncle), was born and lived in Ohio and Washington, D. C. He was an important part of the Ready family. He was the one brother to four sisters. His life was full as he was ordained a Catholic priest September 14, 1918, consecrated a Roman Catholic Bishop December 14, 1944. He died May 2, 1957.
During his life he made such an impression - upon his death both the U. S. Senate and the U. S. House of Representatives paid tribute to him in the Congressional Record. He delivered the Benediction at President Franklin D. Roosevelt's --- inauguration.
After graduating from Seton Hill College, Greenburg, Pennsylvania, Eleanor went to Washington, D. C., to work for Uncle Michael at the National Catholic Welfare Conference. She worked in the Public Relations Office. -

Eleanor and Walter Meet at Mrs. Joy's

Mrs. Joy (who forever stayed an important friend of the Litwin Family - along with her children, Dick, Paula and John) ran a rooming house in --- Washington, D. C. She often invited singles to her home for meals. Eleanor was living at Mrs. Joy's and one night Walter and friends joined the house for dinner. Eleanor and Walter clicked! -
The 1940's for Eleanor and Walt
The 1940's were an important 'formative' time for Eleanor and Walt. They meet, marry and begin building their family. They meet in Washington, D. C., Walt enlists in the USNR and is released from active duty; they move to California to live following their marriage and subsequently return to Washington, D. C., to 2000 Connecticut Avenue, N. W., Washington, D. C. They move to (town) in Maryland where they live for xx years. Their family begins with Catherine Victoria in 1948 and Mary Ellen in 1949. Walt joins The Hecht Company in 1945 where he stays for -- years. They find a great property on a hill in Kensington, Maryland, design and build their home where all children grew up.
Perspective: On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. (Walt later worked at Pearl Harbor); the U. S. enters World War II; WWII ends (year); Franklin Delano Roosevelt holds three terms of office as President of the United States;

Their Wedding in Mansfield, Ohio
Mansfield, Ohio
It was a beautiful wedding - both Eleanor and Walt's families were present. Eleanor's Uncle Michael, then Bishop of Columbus, married the couple. Uncle Michael remained an important part of the couple's life. Eleanor (and her cousin Ellen) worked in Washington, D. C. for Bishop Ready at the National Catholic Welfare Conference - and - Walter designed and built a church in --- for the Bishop. -
