Calvin Jackson
From birth Roy was called “Little Andy” after his dad. He was the eldest son of Marjorie Murray Jackson, a gold star mother, and Roy Andrew Jackson who died when Andy was 2 years old while serving aboard the USS Pringle in WW2. His close friend and mentor, Uncle Glenn (Alice) Murray made Andy and his brother Cal (Ina) a part of their family.
Andy was a lifelong member of Bethel Nazarene church. He attended Chadsey H.S. where he took courses in culinary services. He transferred and graduated from Southeastern H.S. in Detroit. After H.S. he joined the Navy and trained as a corpsman. He was assigned to the Marines and was deployed to the Middle East where he spent six months aboard ship cruising in the Turkey/Greece area where tensions were running very hot. Later he was deployed to Guantanamo Bay Cuba during the missile crises and the Cuban blockade.
He left the Navy and joined the Fruehauf Co. in Detroit where he worked as a dispatcher until the plant closed. Andy worked as a dispatcher/broker in the trucking industries. His hobby was cooking for his family and church. On 11-Nov-1973 Andy married Marlene (nee Pietila) Tzafaroglou, He was a loving step-father to Marlene’s 4 children; Ted, Chris, Sofia (Bob Thompson) and Nick and step-grandfather to Marlene's grandchildren. A special thanks to Sofia and Jason for the love, care and comfort they gave Andy during his extended stay in the hospital.
From TZ-Jay his grandson: “I love you so much. You will be missed by many. You were loved by millions. You changed the world with your love and kindness. Thank You for being My grandfather, but more importantly my father. Thank You for showing me a love that no one else could. Thank You for your compassion, guidance, care, and friendship. I will always carry you and your love with me and give to others. I love you always and forever...”
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. His Grandma Grace’s favorite.
