We saw this dog on the streets of Hanoi, and he followed us for a good half a block or more. He looked like a lot like a smaller Jasper, enough so that those of us on this particular excursion called him Vietnamese Jasper. It was a special moment, made all the more wistful by our reluctance to pet him since the infectious disease doctor we visited before our trip told us not to pet any dogs because none of them were likely to have rabies vaccines. Do you believe in canine ghosts? We miss you Jasper.
It all started with a rabbit, or really, the promise of a rabbit. 5 year old Laura asked Sara for a rabbit in September 2005. Sara said, "Let's wait until Hanukah," thinking, maybe Laura will want something else by then.
