LifeStory

Brett Armistead Ungermann

By Donna Ungermann

On January 21, 2018, Brett Ungermann passed away suddenly from natural causes at his home in Coronado, CA.

Brett was born on May 4, 1954 in Washington, DC.  Growing up he lived in many interesting places, including Alaska and Mexico, but spent most of his youth in California before his family moved to Massachusetts.  Brett graduated from Manchester High School and Northeastern University where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. It was at Northeastern where he met a group of people who would remain his lifelong friends.  As an adult, Brett returned to northern California and lived there for nearly 30 years with his wife, Donna. He retired from a long, successful career as a Product Assurance Senior Manager at Lockheed Martin and had been enjoying the good life the last 4 years. He recently moved to Coronado, Ca. and was enjoying boating and biking with his close friends.

Brett was a character who loved to pull pranks on people, laugh, and tell jokes.  He was funny, interesting, and an all-around good guy. People that met him liked and enjoyed him. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles.  Brett loved his toys! He liked gadgets and was always this close to the next big idea/invention. His interests were golfing, biking, and classic cars.  He was an animal lover and he especially loved his two rescue dogs.

Brett is survived by and will be deeply missed by his ex-wife/friend Donna, his west coast nieces Emily and Leah, as well as his east coast relatives, niece, nephews, and life-long college friends.

Brett was a friend of mine when we were at Pacific View Elementary School. I spent the night at his house the very night of the first showing of that Twilight Zone, where William Shatner pulls back the curtain real quick in an airplane and there was a ghoul outside. The entire western hemisphere must have jumped at the same time along with me and Brett. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Paul, thanks for your post. I was a longtime friend of Brett's, meeting him in college in Boston around 1978. He loved cars and also high-end sound systems. If I remember correctly he had a powerful stereo installed in the GTO. Maybe it's still there, although that was probably in the 90's. Hope you enjoy the car, Brett would be very happy you're taking good care of his "Goat".

So, I did not know Brett.

In 2011 however, I bought a 1967 GTO out in Santa Rosa, CA. It came complete with a fair amount of documentation, some books, a copy of an appraisal done in 1990. I ran across an old parts catalog addressed to Brett in San Francisco. As we are wont to do these Days, I googled his name, only to discover that he has passed.

I wasn't quite sure it was the same person, but reading through some of the stories, reading of his love for cars and such, I thought perhaps it was Him.

I then happened upon a photo of Brett with a couple of Friends...standing behind a 67 GTO. I'm quite certain I have in my possession, His old GTO. It still has what I believe to be the original California plates on it.

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, though I didn't know Him...I'd like to think He knows His "Old Goat" is in good hands. He is, we are, inextricably linked as crazy as it might sound...through an old automobile.

My sincerest condolences on Your loss.

Regards,
Paul Batzel

Here then a couple of photos:
