My father, Keith Wayne Vanloo transitioned on Monday March 5th. Although we are made heartsick by his passing, we honor his life.
Keith immigrated to New York from Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago at the age of twelve and reunited with his family in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to Queens as a teenager.
His enthusiasm for music, world history, and culture informed his unique orientation to the world and encouraged a life of curiosity. These passions led to his work in food and fine art. After an early life of entrepreneurship, establishing Brooklyn institutions that remain today, including Scoops Ice Cream Parlor on Flatbush Avenue. He later worked with great dedication as an art installer at the Brooklyn Museum of Art for 12 years and was beloved by all of his colleagues.
My father's extraordinary worldview also led to many deep and meaningful relationships with people from all walks of life. His compassion for others ensured that these friendships would last a lifetime.
