LifeStory

Justin Joseph Benito

My lil' Bro, My partner in crime, My BEST Friend

By Brett Benito

My family lost our Son, brother and Uncle Justin. I lost my best friend.  I love you and will miss you more than you ever could know. Justin was always there for me, and I tried to be there for him.  Justin was the family or friend we "saw" most often in our home because of our weekly or even every few days FaceTime conversations.  Even though we were 3,000 miles apart, Bodhi and Benny loved their Uncle Justin and their Facetime talks with you brought such joy to all of us.

I am so happy for the 37 years we got and the many adventures we had. From our neighborhood basketball, baseball, and football games at mom and dad’s, to competing in horseshoes and bocce in San Diego… You were always my favorite opponent. I don’t even know what I’m going to do for NFL without trash talking to you the whole season.

All of my best stories and most of the craziest events in my life have Justin at my side.  We went to many concerts together, from Phish @ Osweggo to Beastie Boys in San Diego.  All of my mischievous youth has Justin in it.  The woods were our playground and we built a lot, broke a lot, set stuff on fire and stayed outside until dark almost every day of our childhood.

I am grateful for the 9 months I got with you out in San Diego. Those were some of the best times of my life. I am so glad you were the best man at my wedding and got to spend many times with Emily. I am thankful for the time you had with Benny. Every time I look at our sons all I can ever think of was our childhood. No matter how many times we bickered… Man, I loved you growing up. You were always so much cooler than I was, and I was the big brother. Mom and Dad gave us the best childhood with a huge state forest only a few miles away and a huge yard to play in. We built too many forts to count. We rode our bikes for too many miles to keep track. We took many family vacations and got to snorkel in so many exotic places. All along these adventures you made my laugh and were my partner that was up for anything.

All of my favorite memories include my little brother Justin..... Honestly Justin, without you I will be forever broken. But I don't want that hurt fixed. The hurt is the place in my heart that you will forever be. In that same place in my heart is all of the joyful memories we made together.

You were my best friend and I hope you knew how much I cared and loved you. I would trade anything to have a few more moments with you. Rest In Peace, Justin. I Love You.

This picture is from Mt. Blue State Park in Maine from 2009. This was our original camping crew – Trevor, Tom, Mike, Hannah, Dan & Jessie from Maine would always meet me, Justin, Amanda, Brenda & Greg on either Memorial Day or Labor Day wknd or both for about 5 yrs. These were some of the best wknds of the year each year!
On this particular trip, Kirk, Amanda’s sister Erin, her dog Dubie & Derek joined us too.
I will always remember Justin on the day we went to the park by the water to just chill & toss a frisbee or some bocce balls around. Most of us were pretty drained after a couple later nights by the fire, but Justin decided to crush some Coors Lights right when he woke up, & I will always remember him being an absolute character that day! We were really lucky to have had made so many fun memories with Justin & this crew on all of those camping trips.
