Mary Costner

Mary L. Costner, 78, of Chatham, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.


Mary was born on June 10, 1939 in North Wildwood, NJ. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Alfonso and Mary Gredone.


She was educated at Wildwood Catholic High School and then graduated from American University in Washington, DC. Mary worked her entire career as a teacher beginning in Scotch Plains NJ and then at Washington Avenue Elementary School in Chatham, NJ. Mary was a beloved and dedicated educator. Her work made a large and positive impact on her student’s lives.


In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her grandchildren.


Mary is survived by her partner, Carl Bohner. She was the cherished mother of Harry “Trip” Costner and Brent Costner and loving grandmother of Elizabeth, Aiden, and Chloe. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Claire Furey.


A visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Donation Processing, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
