Fifty years ago I was finishing 6th grade at McGinn Elementary School in Scotch Plains. When I started the year my teacher's name was Miss Gredone and it was Mrs. Costner at year's end. I'm not sure what made her so magical but she cast a spell on the class and on Glen Kaplinsky and I most especially. I was lucky enough to have had many strong teachers and great educational experiences but no one ever made me feel as welcome in the classroom as Mrs. Costner. I live in Connecticut and Glen called me, from NJ, with the sad news tonight. Thank you for an amazing year Mrs. Costner and for all the other amazing years you created for the hundreds of students lucky enough to have called you their teacher.
