Freda Kaelblein

Freda A. Kaelblein, 93, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.


Freda was born on September 15, 1924 in Staten Island, New York. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Jennie (nee Diana) Nitti.


While working for Gulf Oil, Freda volunteered with the USO, where she met Francis, her beloved husband of 60 years. After moving to Springfield, she worked at The Papermill Playhouse. She also worked at Belting Industries in Kenilworth as a bookkeeper for many years.


In her earlier years, Freda enjoyed trips to the Jersey Shore and often shared memories of her family home in Long Branch. She was an avid bowler and a talented ballroom dancer. A devoted mother and grandmother, Freda enjoyed spending summer weekends in the Poconos with her children and grandchildren.


She was a parishioner of St. James the Apostle Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered in the rectory. She was an active member of the Saint James Seniors.


Freda was predeceased by her husband, Francis Kaelblein in 2011. She was the loving mother of Patricia Bole, Robert Kaelblein (Patricia), Gerard Kaelblein and Thomas Kaelblein, and cherished grandma of Christopher, Jennifer, Matthew, Rachel, Kristen, Nicholas, Jacqueline and Jessica. She was predeceased by her siblings; Joseph, Nicholas, Arthur and Rose.


A visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 South Springfield Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. An interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Staten Island, NY In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
