Charles McCabe

Charles Joseph McCabe, of Chatham, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Charlie was the loving and devoted husband of Maryann for 42 years, and father of CJ and Kelly. Known for his sense of humor and work ethic, Charlie’s love of God, his family, his country, his many pups, and the NY Yankees and Giants, radiated to those around him. Charlie’s legacy will forever be held in the hearts of those who love him.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Charlie went to Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School and graduated from St. Peter’s College.

Upon graduation in 1968, Charlie was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant to serve in the U.S. Army.   He was active during the Vietnam War, and honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1970. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal.

Charlie then earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Fordham University.

Charlie married Maryann Greene in 1976, and they moved to Chatham, New Jersey a year later where he was supportive of the youth sports programs and church activities at Corpus Christi Parish.

At the time of his passing, Charlie was Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Commercial Real Estate with Connect One Bank in Englewood and Union, New Jersey. Prior to that, Charlie was Vice President of First National State Bank, Senior Vice President of Asset Management at The Kislak Company, Senior Vice President of the Real Estate Department of First Fidelity Bank, and Executive Vice President of Real Estate with Carteret Savings Bank. He also held positions with Walsh Securities and K. Hovnanian Homes, New Construction Development.

Predeceased by his parents Charles J. and Miriam McCabe; Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Maryann; son CJ McCabe; daughter Kelly Simon and her husband Marc; sister Diane Leo, and nephews James, John, Ted and Jeffrey Leo. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday July 7, 2018, at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Boulevard, Chatham Township.  The visitation is Friday, July 6th, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Chatham Emergency Squad, 45 Spring Street, Chatham, New Jersey 07928.
