Dorothy E. Ghiretti, 95, of Mountainside, NJ and formerly of Union, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Brighton Gardens of Mountainside surrounded by her family. 

Dorothy was born on March 16, 1923 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adolph and Elizabeth (nee Sackmeister) Dassing. 

Dorothy was a graduate of Union High School, Union, NJ. She grew up in and later raised her family in a home in Union that her father built. Dorothy lived most her life in Union before moving to Cranford and lastly settling in Mountainside. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Union, NJ and worked as a receptionist for the Archdiocese of Newark. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Chester R. Ghiretti in 1999. She was the loving mother of 6 children; Thomas, Nancy Horowitz (Jesse), John (Mary Kay), Teresa Amsel, James (Rachael), and Robert (Joanne) and cherished grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her nephew, Stephen Dassing. She was predeceased by her brother, William Dassing, son-in-law, Michael Amsel and granddaughter, Julia Ghiretti. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:15 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ 07083. An entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
