Salvatore Testa

Salvatore (Sal) Testa, born June 8, 1924 at Newark Memorial Hospital in Newark, NJ. Lifelong resident of NJ, outside of serving in the military overseas during WWII European Theatre of Operations. Attended Newark Public School systems, 1-8thgrades at South 10th St. School, 9th grade at Cleveland Jr. High, 10th-12th grades at West Side High School, graduated June 1943. Attended Camp School of Tailoring and Madison Institute after being discharged from the military. He was inducted into the Army, Aug. 1943. Took basic training at Camp Grant, Illinois with 28-A RTC company-medical training Battalion of the 6th Medical Training Regimen. While overseas, he was promoted to the rank of Buck Corporal. He was proud to serve his country in time of War. He served with the 314th Medical Station Hospital, attending to the badly wounded GI’s that invaded the Normandy Beach in France. Sal went onto serve with the 828th Convalescent Center in France. Also, for a short period was with a military police company as a company clerk. He was on the high seas coming home for re-deployment to the South Pacific when he was told the Japanese Army surrendered. He was then relocated to Camp Crowder until his honorable discharge.  Sal worked at Ronson from 1950-1971 and was in charge of service stock room. He then worked for Bristol Myers Squibb from 1971-1995, as the Senior Security Officer before retiring.

He is pre-deceased by his wife Carmela Testa. Sal is survived by his son Joseph S. Teste MD and his wife Giovanna, his daughter, Lucille Testa, his sister Rachel Jacob and her husband Herbert, 2 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. James the Apostle Church, Springfield. Entombment Hollywood Memorial Park. Visiting hours, Sunday, 2 to 5 pm at the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. Springfield. In lieu of flowers donations in Sal’s name may be made to: Disabled Veterans of America or St. Labre Indian School.
