Rita Gillberg, 91, of Summit, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

Rita was born on December 8, 1926 in Millburn, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Lucy (nee Oldroyd) Pickard.

Rita was a longtime resident of Summit where she was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church, Summit Seniors, and Springfield Ladies Elks. She went weekly to the Seniors to play mahjong and loved solving puzzles.

Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert and brother, George. She was the loving mother of Judy O’Dell, Richard Gillberg, Nancy Caputo (James) and Wayne Gillberg. In addition, she was the cherished grandmother of Todd O’Dell, Laurie McLeod, Richard Gillberg, Jr., Michael Caputo, Lisa Ruck, Marissa Giovannis and great-grandmother of Brandon, Tasha, Tristan, Aidan, Brandon, Tyler, Ava and Anthony. She was also survived by her sister, Theresa Pickard.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901. An interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, NJ.
