Eleanor Corliss Kaufmann, age 86 of Cranford, formerly of Union passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.

Eleanor was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Smithtown, NY for part of her childhood. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn. Following graduation from Wagner College with a bachelor of science in mathematics and physics, she worked at RCA in Harrison, NJ, where she met her beloved husband, Fred. They married in 1955.

Following the birth of their daughters, Jean and Susan, Eleanor was an active member of the Parent-Teacher Associations in public schools in Union, NJ, serving as president of the PTA chapters at Connecticut Farms Elementary School, Central-Six Jefferson School and Burnet Junior High School. She also served as an officer of the Union County PTA and was honored with a life membership in the New Jersey State PTA. She was also treasurer of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Union.

In later years, Eleanor became an ardent backyard birder and volunteered with Fred to help maintain the bluebird trail at Lenape Park in the Union County Park System.

She is survived by her husband Fred and her daughters Jean (of Somerset, NJ) and Susan (of Cranford, NJ) and Susan’s companion Ivan Kossak.

Memorial visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the New Jersey Audubon Society or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
