Ann Ametta

Ann J. Ametta of Chatham, NJ, formerly a longtime resident of Hackensack, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 88.

Anna Josephina Rita Beatrice Ametta was born in the Bronx to Camillo Luigi Lomelini Ametta and Immaculata (Emma) Muratore, originally from Foggia and L’Aquila, Italy. She was known to family and friends simply as Ann. She and her family moved to Hackensack, NJ soon after she finished high school, and she would spend most of her life there. Ann was 21 years old when she began work at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1951 and she would build a career in the hospital’s Real Estate Department, managing their rental housing. Two years ago, after 64 years of faithful service, Ann retired from the hospital, receiving an award for the longest serving employee as well as a letter of commendation from Mayor Bill de Blasio. She moved to Chatham, NJ in 2017 to be closer to family. After some health issues earlier this year, she moved to an assisted living facility in Florham Park, NJ.

Ann loved to travel, with some of her memorable trips taking her to Ireland, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. She enjoyed antiquing, and for many years spent her weekends hosting tables at various flea markets, where she took pleasure in haggling with her many customers.

Her sister Marie B. Meyers, brother-in-law Dr. Kenneth P. Meyers and nephew David P. Meyers, predecease her. She is survived by her nephew Peter J. Meyers, his wife Claudia L. Meyers, and their children Audrey Lilith and Eleanor Rose.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the William A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Chatham, NJ 07928 from 6 pm until 8 pm, with a service beginning at 7:30pm. Burial services will be private at St. Raymond Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.

Thank you Kathleen. Ann lived a long and prosperous life, including many decades at NYP. I was fortunate to meet some of her colleagues at her retirement party. Best regards, Peter Meyers
