Meredith Hope Cushman (nee Thurber), 71, of New Providence passed away on November 27, 2018. Funeral services will be private.  Born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Stephen and Laura (Ward) Thurber, Meredith grew up in Sherrill, NY and graduated from Vernon, Verona, Sherrill CSD in 1965.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY New Paltz in 1968 and her Master’s Degree from Syracuse University School of Information Studies in 1985.  Meredith was an Online Learning Application Administrator with Rutgers University where she retired from in May, 2018.  Previously she held positions at Stevens Institute of Technology (1985-2005) and Syracuse University.  Meredith’s family and faith were her greatest passion. She enjoyed time visiting her children and grandchildren whenever possible as well as the outdoors and healthy living.

Meredith was the beloved wife of the late George Cushman, Jr. She was the loving mother of Shannon Leigh Coombs Buffa (Mark) of Alpharetta, GA and Jeffrey Raymond Coombs (Jennifer) of Temecula, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christian, Dylan, Jennifer, Jeremy, Levi, Paige, Sabrina and Tanner, sister Judith A. Thurber of Liverpool, NY, brother, Peter Thurber (Kelly) of Oneida, NY, and stepson, Milford B. Cushman (Terri Gregory) of Stowe, VT.  She is pre-deceased by her stepson, G. Thomas Cushman.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Meredith’s memory may be made to the Presbyterian Church at New Providence, 1307 Springfield Ave, New Providence, NJ 07974.
