Born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of James and Eva (Barger) Simpson, Richard was raised in Lansdowne, PA.  He attended Temple University.  Richard also lived in Alden, PA, and Livingston, NJ, before moving to Chatham in 1982.  Early in his career, Richard worked in the insurance industry and in 1992 took the helm of the family business, James H. Simpson LLC, and has run it ever since.  He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church as well as the Early Ford V-8 Club of America, The Crown Victoria Association and The Antique Automobile Club of America.  Richard will be fondly remembered as a very kind, gentle and generous man.  He loved classic automobiles, Lionel trains and Ocean City, NJ, where he spent summers.  Richard loved to travel and visited many countries.  He was an avid storyteller, but most of all, he was devoted to his family and his greatest joy was being “Poppy” to Alexis and Ryan.  He will be greatly missed.

Richard was the beloved husband of 44 years to Barbara.  He was the loving father of Charlotte “Carrie” Kern, her husband Robert and son, Douglas Simpson.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Alexis and Ryan Kern as well as many cousins.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, NJ Chapter, 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville 08691 or to the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township - 240 Southern Boulevard, Chatham, NJ 07928.
