Grace Carmichael

Grace Ellen Carmichael, 97, of Springfield, transitioned peacefully at home on Thursday, December 6, 2018. A funeral service will be held at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield on Monday, December 17th at 11am.  Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.  Friends are invited to visit on Sunday, December 16th from 3 to 7pm and Monday at 10am prior to the service.  To send a condolence, please visit www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com.


Grace was a graduate of Jonathon Dayton High School and was employed at Weston Instruments in Newark, New Jersey, for 40 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church for over 75 years and had also been active with the Springfield Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed gardening, big band music and dancing and enjoyed travelling and visiting with family. Grace was a descendent of the Crane family who helped found Elizabeth, New Jersey. Grace was known for her kindness to all and she paid particular attention to homebound friends and family.


Grace was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Elwood Carmichael, her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Felix (Pete) Zoeller and her nephew Peter Zoeller.


Grace is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Nancy Benz (Robert), Carol Desiderio and Scott Zoeller. She is also survived by her great nephews Michael Desiderio and Adam Desiderio, two great great nieces and many cousins.


Grace is also survived by her wonderful and devoted caregivers: Mary, Shahadah, Mercy, Tracey, Marcia, Marie and Maria, who cared for her with loving kindness and humor. The Freedom support staff was very dedicated to her care and well being.
