What's the best piece of advice your mom ever gave you?
As a teenager without any real hobbies or passions, my mom once told me "you are a very nice person, but you aren't yet an interesting person". It sounds harsh, but it was said with love and kindness. Not in an argument and not in a way that was intended to put me down. It's important for me to point out that "yet" is a key word in how she framed her cirtique/advice. While I didn't love hearing it, her observation resonated with my sense of self and is part of the reason why I dove deep into photography that year and developed my first passion and creative outlet. A passion which my mom fully heartedly supported me in exploring.
