Thomas W. Kachelriess, 89, a life-long resident of Union, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Thomas was born on October 31, 1929 in Union, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Minnie (nee Von Ohlen) Kachelriess.

Thomas was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School and Union High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After 25 years working for City Federal Savings and Loan as an assistant Vice President, he finished his career as a real estate appraiser for Professional Appraisal Associates, Summit, NJ.

He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Union NJ Council #4504. Thomas was also a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and held an SRA destination. In his spare time, he loved playing cards and enjoyed bowling.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor (Baduini) Kachelriess and was the cherished father of son, Thomas Kachelriess and wife Kathleen, daughters, Karen Hohner and husband Paul and Cynthia Kachelriess Barry. He was the cherished grandfather of Tara, Kate, Robert, Tiffany, Eric, Douglas, great-grandfather of Sophia, Alex, Riley and Michael and survived by several nieces and nephews. Thomas was predeceased by his siblings; Julia, Richard, Larry, and William.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:15 am on Friday, April 5, 2019 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ 07083. An interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains, NJ.
