Ellen M. Marlowe, 96, a lifelong resident of Summit, New Jersey passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019. Ellen was born on March 23, 1923 in Orange, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Catherine (nee Fee) Marlowe. Ellen worked for 60 years at NJ Bell Telephone Company, which later became Verizon, and retired as Senior Analyst. Ellen and her dearest friend and companion, Anthony O. Leach, enjoyed Harvard/Yale football games, frequent visits to Matinicus Island off the coast of Massachusetts, and foreign travel. In more recent years, Ellen enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends, and feeding the birds. Ellen was the loving aunt of Ann Edmondson, Frederick Griswold, Patricia Churchill, Geraldine Ponto, James Ponto, Lisa (Marlowe) Beaver, and Matthew Marlowe Ellen had three great nieces, Leslie Silver, Susan Sands, Michelle Richards, and a great nephew, Brian Ponto, as well as many great great nieces and nephews. Her siblings, Joseph Ballantyne, Mary Ballantyne Griswold, Sally Marlowe Ponto, and Peter Marlowe and wife Betty predeceased Ellen.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ. An interment will follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
