Lois Johnson Vieser, 90, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2019 surrounded by her adoring family. Lois lived a full life as a loving and devoted wife and mother of five children and nine grandchildren. She was a kind, generous, and loving person who had a unique zest for life, always seeking new adventures and knowledge and striving to live life to the fullest.

Lois was born in Orange, New Jersey, on October 3, 1928, to Leslie and Ethel Johnson. Lois met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) William Vieser, during college and they were married on September 8, 1951. It was a match made in heaven and they were happily married for 59 years until his passing in 2010.

Lois was the perfect complement to her husband, and she was the foundation upon which her family was built. She was always the strong silent force behind Dick whose ability to raise five children and take care of the home responsibilities enabled him to accomplish as much as he did in the business world. While Lois worked hard to instill old world values in her children, she always encouraged them to be open to new ideas, to travel the world and to pursue their dreams. She worked hard to expose her family to the finer things in life but taught them to appreciate the simple things as well.

Lois was a voracious reader who always sought to be on the cutting edge of new ideas in arts, culture, health and medicine before they were widely accepted. Lois had a passion for cooking, gardening, travel and the arts. She was involved in historical preservation, the arts and philanthropy and was a member of the President’s Council of Colonial Williamsburg. She took classes in gardening and art collecting through Sotheby’s, studied mycology in Vermont, soap making in Maine, oil painting at the Chicago Art Institute, cooking in Italy and rode elephants in India. Lois always sought adventure and was active in golf, tennis, skiing, gardening and antiquing. She loved to shoot pheasant in England and quail in Georgia and enjoyed fishing in Scotland.

Lois was always thoughtful and elegant in everything she did. She had a great sense of style whether it came to decorating the houses, landscaping the gardens, preparing a meal, or her wardrobe. She always tried to add a special, unique touch or twist to whatever she did and to expose her children to all the wonderful things that life has to offer.

She always saw the good in people and had a way of reaching out to the person that needed it the most. Whether through a note, kind gesture or invitation – she always included the person that someone else might overlook and kept in touch with them long after.

While Lois and Dick traveled extensively and developed friendships around the world, her greatest joy was being with her family and friends around the dinner table, playing games or doing puzzles with her grandchildren. She especially treasured spending time with her family at their mountaintop farm in Walpole, NH or at their beach home in Sea Island, GA. She had an easy laugh and was game for any kind of fun with her grandchildren.

Lois was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her four adoring children, Richard (and Patricia) of Bernardsville, NJ, Cheryl (Vieser) Kleckner of Alpharetta, GA, Cynthia (Vieser) and Joseph Falco of Madison, NJ, and Jaime (and Melinda) of Bernardsville, NJ, and her brother Leslie Johnson. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard William Vieser, and her loving son, William John David Vieser. She also leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends, including her nine beloved grandchildren, Donald, Francesca, David, Joseph, Anne, Katherine, Alexandra, Bella and Richard William, and her best friends Mery Lorastein and Mary Gregor.

Her grandchildren always admired her zest for life, fun and adventure and the twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. Her enormous spirit, sense of humor, kindness and love for life inspired all those who knew her. Her infectious laugh, heart-warming smile, generous heart and beautiful spirit will never leave us.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10 am at Calvary Episcopal Church, 31 Woodland Rd., Summit, NJ. Visiting hours, Monday, 5 pm to 8 pm at the Bradley Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave., Summit, NJ. Interment private.
