Ray Simon

Raymond M. Simon, DDS, 89, of Chatham, passed away on June 23, 2019. Born and raised in Newark, he moved to Chatham, where he graduated from Chatham High School. He graduated from Seton Hall University and went on to attend dental school at the University of Maryland. He was elected to the Gorgas Odontological Honor Society. Ray served for two years in the Air Force stationed in France as a dentist, and achieved the rank of Captain. Upon his return, he opened his dental practice, having offices on Fairmount Avenue and then Main Street. Dr. Simon retired after 50 years, at the age of 80. He was a longtime Rotarian, and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of The New Jersey Dental Society and the Tri County Dental Society. Dr. Simon enjoyed trout fishing, antiquing, and in his younger years, hunting.


Dr. Simon is survived by his wife of 57 years Elizabeth Joan (McGrath); his children, Karen Decker and her husband Rob of Morristown, New Jersey, Gail Tetrault of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and John R. Simon, DDS of Massachusetts; grandchildren Luke Tetrault, Emily Tetrault, Stephen Decker, Meghan Decker, Christopher Simon and Abigail Simon. He is also survived by his brother in law, Patrick J. McGrath, MD and his wife Yvonne.
