What's the best piece of advice your mom ever gave you?

When I was really young (maybe eight or nine), I remember my mother always telling me to 'treat people the way I would want to be treated': and I remember her always stating it with such assurance and grace. My mom has said trillions of the things to me in my lifetime (and yes...many of those things have gone straight in one ear and straight out the other) but these words for some reason have always resonated with me. Because of my mother's advice, growing up, I have always been super mindful of how I treat people. Today, at 35, I can honestly say that I feel like this idea of treating others how we want to be treated is such a simple task yet a lot people can't seem to grasp it. Kindness is a beautiful thing and I think as we grow older, life seems to get in the way of how we should treat people. I would say because of my mother's ten words, I am who I am today- they're really more powerful than most people know. ;)
