Jon’s powers of perception seemed to verge on the superhuman. That and his piercing wit certainly smoothed the journey in Sierra Leone. Later, those qualities made for a friend who was at times challenging, and at others, willing to patiently meet me where I was. Jon helped me to be a better parent. A better partner in marriage. He enriched my experience of music.
I keep revisiting the banner photo of this page, and a similar photo Anne posted on the memorial invitation, of Adam and Peter standing beside Jon. The pictures make me smile, thinking about what Jon and Patricia accomplished together. Something about those 2 young men out in the world seems profoundly good.
Adam, Peter, meeting and befriending your father was one of the most fortunate occurrences of my life.

I'll never forget a funny exchange between Jon and Jewel--yes, the singer--which can't be repeated here, but it's forever stuck in my memory as typical Jon humor. You can imagine what Jewel's response was when Jon shouted out a request for 'Free Bird'.
In more recent years Jon and I have exchanged a lot of thoughts on our kids and family life. My kids fondly remember Jon playing a game of 'Headbands' with them.
We enjoyed attending Nationals games and I remember a great couple of hours talking with Jon, his dad, and Jon's co-worker waiting for the rain to stop before a game.
I remember a time we met Jon at the Women's March and Jon had a poignant sign directed at a certain President which said 'What's Wrong With Me?' I loved that sign.
I will miss him and our family will miss him.
