LifeStory

Tim Collins

Dedicated to always being and doing better

By Daina Mattis

Timothy Raymond Collins, 42, of Brooklyn, passed away in his home on Monday, February 7th after a long battle with cancer. Tim, known to his friends and family, big and small, as Timmy, Tippy, Timbo, or Mimmy, was a beloved son, father, partner, grandson, nephew, and friend.

Tim was a humble master craftsman and carpenter, ever the helper, so generous with his time, and gracious to share his every skill. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, hiking, and especially camping with loved ones and his dog Jeter. Sports, darts, and drumming were favorite pastimes, spent in the company of friends, family, and a cold one. His insatiable love of reading demonstrated a more quiet and reflective spirit, complimenting his outgoing and adventurous side.

Born in Syracuse, NY, Tim embraced Brooklyn for all its grit and charm renovating a brownstone with his partner Daina, but they spent weekends, holidays, and summers where Tim will always call home — Syracuse.

Tim is predeceased by step-father Mark E. Henson and grandparents Raymond E. Collins, Helen Collins, Robert Davis, Lucy Henson, and Phillip Lynch. He is survived by his son Mark Patrick Collins, his partner Daina J. Mattis, mother Kathi Henson, father Larry Collins, step-mother Susan P. Collins, brothers Casey Collins, Spencer Collins (Sarah), Jacob Del Favero, and sister Chelsea Pecola (Caleb), nieces Clara Collins, Cecelia Pecola, Gabriella Pecola, and grandparents Barbara Strange, Jim Henson, Doreen A. Lynch, and Marty Davis.

Tim was deeply loved and will eternally be missed. Rest in Peace.

Please consider donating to Tim's favorite charity: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

And feel free to share your memories on this virtual wall or bring letters, poems, drawings, and/or notes to be buried with his cremated remains on Saturday, May 21st.

Ruta and I were fortunate enough to be welcomed to stay with Tim and Daina for a few days in Brooklyn in 2018 while on vacation. Having only just met, in just those few days, he left such an impression that we have often found ourselves reflecting on how kind, funny, generous and welcoming he was. That trip was made all the better and forever memorable by Tim and Daina sharing with us their home, their favourite spots around the city, and bringing us along with them to meet their friends. Throughout all of which, Tim was fantastic to be around, great conversation, and treated us as if we had known him for years.

Thank you for the fond memories, Tim. Rest in Peace

Words cannot communicate the emotions that the loss of Tim has evoked. His kindness, humor, generosity, and cooking skills were boundless. Tim, thank you for being a wonderful part of our family. Thank you for seeing my efforts and unique qualities that others did not. You had the gift of seeing what others could not and making me think twice in a thoughtful manner. You are dearly missed. Rest In Peace.

Tim, thank you for always making time to spend with me on my visits to NY. Those times with you will forever fill my head with memories…….my stick-to-my-side at art events, having me up for homemade meals, introducing me to fabulous restaurants and fun bars (the Guitar Bar), scrabble games, our shared cancer chats, endless cocktails/beer consumed over great conversations, our ‘I’ll meet you on the stoop’ times, your friendship with my son and your love for my dear friend, Daina! You will be sooooo missed! Thank you for sharing your life with me. My life was definitely made richer with you in it. 💔

Our hearts are so very saddened with Tim’s passing. We have fond memories of time spent in Houston with Daina and Tim on their journey back East. Our visit was casual, relaxed and full of laughter and great conversation. We were always looking forward to another visit. Rest In Peace Tim. We are thankful your suffering has ceased but we will miss your smile and spirit.

Timmy, I am so glad you got to be apart of my life for as long as I can remember. I will never forget how excited I always got when you would show up at our house with Jeter and Daina and we would just chill and talk about anything and everything. You had such an impact on my life and gave me memories that will last a lifetime. You were like an uncle to me and I’m so happy I got to see you over the summer. I wish with everything I could see you again.

Love you forever and miss you,
Mac Attack
