What's the most significant lesson dad taught you?

My father-in-law has taught me a great many things. But when he was showing me how to do some home remodeling task several years ago he said something that stuck with me: Think about how the next person will see this. He meant that eventually someone else would be doing an update and would see our work. Would they see quality and ingenuity? Or would they see lackluster work that represented no effort? Sometimes when I think about rushing a job his words come to memory and it changes my focus and improves my effort.
