Maximo Colon

Loving son, brother and father taken from us too soon

By Julie Koriakin

Maximo “Max” Colon was a loving son, brother and father. He was born on August 3, 1980 at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey to Julia M. Villegas and Jorge T. Colon. He died on July 22, 2016.  He is survived by his parents as well as his daughter Camilla Colon who is only 4 years old.  In addition he leaves behind his siblings: George Colon, wife Theresa Young Colon, Julie Colon Koriakin, husband, Allen S. Koriakin, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

In the early morning hours of Friday, July 22nd, Max died in a fatal car crash involving a tractor trailer. While we have details about how the crash occurred, many questions remain which we hope to answer after police and autopsy reports are released.

Max’s death is tragic in many ways. Two years earlier, on July 5th, 2014 he and his wife at the time lost a 4 month old son, Maximo Joseph Colon in a SIDS related death. The anguish of the loss proved too much for the couple and their marriage deteriorated as a result. Their divorce had just been finalized 4 days before his death. Max was a wonderful father and anyone who knew him saw the complete transformation of his life when he became a father. He loved his children profoundly and wanted nothing more than the opportunity to help them grow into normal, healthy and happy adults. The death of his son was devastating and Max was never really the same afterwards.

Although Max and my family did not see much of each other but when we did we all picked up where we left off. My memories of Max puts smiles on my face since he was always too funny and more so when he was his brother George. I'm a truly sorry and will keep him and his entire family in my prayers.

Only met this wonderful human being once. He had a playful spirit and passion for life. In the brief time I was with him I saw him perform some kind deeds for his fellow friends with little regard for his own inconveniences. He will be missed by all those he touched. "Lord, please help ease the pain of those that were so close to him - Amen"

I met Max while in college through a friend. He was a cool guy and pretty much always had a smile on his face when I saw him. I'm very sorry to hear of his tragic death and the tragedy that he and his family had endured. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends at this time.

Max and I became friends probably when we started kindergarten. The last time I saw him was exactly 20 years ago at my sweet 16. This comes as such a shock. I'm so sorry :(
