My Chains Are Gone

Joyce Eileen (nee Hackendorn) McMonigle, 67, of Claymont, DE died on August 12 at her home. Joyce graduated from William Penn High School in 1966 and Goldey Beacom Junior College. She sang with the Delaware Opera Society and enjoyed the theater. She was a legal secretary in Media and retired from sales in 2012 from Power Windows and Siding.

Through her ups and downs, she professed faith and worshipped Jesus throughout the Delaware Valley at Fellowship Baptist, First Baptist of Aston, South Side Baptist, Woodlyn Baptist, and Bethel Baptist churches.

She is survived by daughters Lisa Corrado (Eric) and Marsha Alekel (Robert); cousins Sonnhilde Kish (Alex) and Jim Hobbs (Ann Marie). Her five grandchildren Emiline, Matthew, David, Shannon, and Sarah were the light of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. Hackendorn and Emily (Shields). 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington. In keeping with her joyful view of heaven, she requested a service without black attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delaware Right to Life and Sunday Breakfast Mission. Cards can be sent to Bethel Baptist Church, Attn: Marsha Alekel.
